It was founded in 1913 and it holds home games at El Sardinero, with a capacity for 22,222 spectators. It is one club of the ten founding clubs of La Liga.

Built in 1988, it is the home ground for former La Liga club Racing de Santander. It replaced the old Estadio El Sardinero.
